Sorrow over royal nurse death

British media reports on the sadness surrounding the suspected suicide of a nurse who received a prank call about royal Kate at the hospital where she was being treated.

Jacintha Saldanha received the hoax call early on Tuesday morning at the King Edward VII hospital.

Three days later she was found dead.

Police said the death was being treated as unexplained but they were not looking for anyone else, suggesting the nurse had taken her own life.

Two Australian DJs are behind the prank call to the hospital.

They impersonated Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, leading the hospital to reveal personal details about the Duchess of Cambridge's condition.

On the streets of London residents expressed sadness that what began as a simple hoax has ended in tragedy.

"I think it's a terrible shame, an absolute catastrophe that she felt she had to do something that's so tragically sad, for something that's just a stupid joke played by some Australians."

"The people who have done it may have done it as a prank but they didn't think of the consequences afterwards."

News of the suspected suicide comes just days after the Australian DJs had apologised for the prank, and the hospital also apologised for releasing personal information about Kate.
