Description

Mys, as fair as moonlight, walked among the trees,
And beneath the wilding sky, by the restless seas.
Her feet in lily slippers roved the rolling earth
Nowhere to stay
Or see the day
Mys, as sad as rainstorms, cursed since her birth.

Mys, the child of darkness, wished to see the sun,
See the world in Sol’s light, beneath the sky’s eye run.
But lo! the curse upon her forbid her such a sight
She wept with pain
But wept in vain,
Mys could weep herself no aid and so she lived in night.

Mys would linger hopefully, the moon low in the sky
Her mind would reel and tumble, but on and on she’d try.
Her eyes would search the east, long only once be blessed,
But at first ray
To signal Day
Mys could not stay her feet which bore her quickly west.

Mys, her hands a-wringing, circled all the world.
Always running from the sun in a hellish whirl.
As the earth spun around, Mys had to run ahead
Hating to run
From the golden sun
Hating all the darkness, yet still by darkness led.

Then Mys, her heart resolving, stilled her feet one night,
Willing all within her, striving with all might:
Stay! And see the sun! She clung to a pale white tree,
And when her feet
Began to flee
Tight she gripped the tree, teeth bared determinedly!

The moon rolled lower still! Was gone with warning sigh!
And the sun came shooting! It filled the azure sky!
It filled her with its brilliance! Her eyes were opened wide!
She filled with light!
Laughed at the night!
Mys saw the radiant sun! She smile once – and died.

Earth shuddered at her passing as though it’d split in half.
Moon stumbled in its dancing at her first and final laugh.
The sun looked down in wonder at the girl it’d never seen,
The curse – it roared!
As her spirit soared
Into the sunbright sky, in the light at long last free!
