Description

A butterfly, sweet and innocent,
Floating on a breeze,
Floating in insignifigance,
Flaps its tiny wings:

Across the shuddering, groaning earth,
Goes the infinitesimal force.
A ripple from a butterfly’s wing –
Happily on its course.

It gently taps (oh, misery!)
Against a larger air,
Ignorant of the energies
Just hanging – potentially – there.

Oh! Poor little butterfly-force!
So innocent, care-free!
See the storm thou hast unleashed,
That covers land and sea!

It lays to waste the little church,
The school, the house, the trees.
And all is barren, ravished, dead,
The earth is on its knees!

Oh, little, unsullied butterfly,
Oh, sweetest rose on wings,
How is it you are responsible
For such devastating things?

(Here, alone, I weep, I weep,
Only God can hear me cry.
For I know, within my soul,
I am a butterfly.)
