Sonam Kapoor is the daughter of actor Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, and has one sister Rhea and brother Harshvardhan.

Sonam Kapoor is the niece of producer Boney Kapoor, and actor Sanjay Kapoor, and granddaughter of producer Surinder Kapoor and cousin of actor Arjun Kapoor.

Sonam Kapoor started her film career by working as an assistant director to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the film Black in the year 2004.

Sonam Kapoor lost weight to become an actress and made her debut in Saawariya with Ranbir Kapoor in the year 2007, and she was well liked by the masses and the classes as well as the critics. She was nominated and won many awards for her role and debut in Saawariya.
