Portugal and Benfica soccer legend Eusebio died from a heart attack on Sunday at the age of 71.

The player nicknamed 'the Black Panther' won global acclaim in the 1966 World Cup in England where his nine goals took Portugal to the semi-finals.

He earned 64 caps and scored 41 goals for Portugal, records that stood for nearly two decades.

The star, who retired in 1975, was known for his ability to intimidate defences and carve his way through to score.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney was one of those who saved a possible-match-winning Eusebio shot.

"He's remembered for applauding me which, you know, which has never probably ever been seen. It wouldn't be seen today, I know that for a fact. But no, I mean, always remembered for that in my respect but I mean, to do that four minutes to the end
