Smoke rises over Sirte
Description
Fierce fighting continued between Libya's interim government forces and fighters loyal to ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi.
This smoke rising from the besieged city of Sirte was caused by a NATO airstrike.
The battle for Gaddafi's hometown is raising concerns for civilians still trapped inside the city as shelling and tank fire continued from both eastern and western fronts.
Fifteen wounded fighters arrived at a field hospital 5 km west of Sirte.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) VOLUNTEER DOCTOR HASSAN MUSTAFA, SAYING:
"Today in the morning everything is quiet, after, and afternoon we received about 15 cases, one is died, and 14 superficial injured."
The National Transitional Council (NTC) is under pressure to strike a balance between a prolonged fight which would delay its efforts to govern and a quick victory, which, if too bloody, could worsen divisions.
In a separate development, Tuareg tribesmen and local Arabs swapped hostages and signed a peace deal.
This was a move to stabilise an area where some security officials believe Gaddafi has taken refuge.
Though one tribesman was sure the leader was hiding elsewhere.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED TUAREG TRIBESMAN, SAYING:
"No, no, no way that (Muammar) Gaddafi is in Ghadames or in the Tuareg area. We deny it."
Tuaregs are nomads who roam the desert and traditionally backed Gaddafi.
The tribe is considered important to regional security as the Tuareg have huge influence over the vast empty desert which are often exploited by drug traffickers and militants as a safe haven for their operations.
