Description

Charles de Sivry (1848-1900) : Menuet for mandolins
played by Eric Depret & Jean-Paul Bazin, both members of Ensemble Gabriele Leone
at Gespunsart (French Ardennes) on December 16th, 2012

Charles de Sivry, a pianist at the Cabaret du Chat Noir in Montmartre, was the son of Debussy's piano teacher, the brother-in-law of Verlaine (who dedicated a poem to him), the 4 hands partner of Chabrier, and over all a very versatile artist : orchestra conductor pioneer in ancient music revival (his interest can be heard in this Menuet, inspired by 18th century menuets written for two mandolins by earlier mandolin masters), he wrote a mandolin method, a timpani method, several novels and libretti, chamber music and operettes.
