Single phase polls in Karnataka

Karnataka will hold assembly polls on May 5th in a single phase and votes will be counted on May 8th. The schedule was announced in New Delhi by V S Sampath, Chief Election Commissioner. Briefing media persons in Bangalore, he said that the issue of notification to the polls will be on April 10, and the last date for filing of nominations will be April 17. The nominations will be scrutinized on April 18, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations will be April 20. The state goes to polls with the ruling BJP under pressure to retain power.
