L'histoire de Singin' in the Rain raconte la transition dans les années 1920 du muet au parlant dans l'industrie du cinéma à Hollywood. The Dueling Cavalier deviendra ainsi The Dancing Cavalier, un film sonore.
L'équipe de Robert Carsen a donc réalisé en amont ce petit film en costumes qui sera projeté durant le spectacle.
