Silent march for Toulouse dead

A silent show of solidarity on the streets of Toulouse as thousands of people of different faiths marched in memory of those killed by gunman Mohamed Merah.

Their route through the French city took the marchers past the Jewish school where Merah shot dead three young children and a rabbi.

Organisers earlier visited the scene in Montauban where Merah killed three French soldiers.

A fourth soldier he wounded is still in a critical condition in hospital.

The imam of Drancy is condemning the bloodshed.

SOUNDBITE: HASSEN CHALGHOUMI, IMAM OF DRANCY, SAYING (French):

"The vast majority of Muslims denounce this. They say it has nothing to do with Islam, nor with their own values. And I also wish to thank, in a republican way, the involvement of the president who says that there is no lumping together of Muslims and fanatics."

In a further twist Mohamed Merah's brother, Abdelkader, is being held on suspicion of complicity in the killings.

But his lawyer is denying reports that he told police he was proud of the bloodshed.

SOUNDBITE: ANNE-SOPHIE LAGUENS, LAWYER FOR ABDELKADER MERAH, SAYING (French):

"He hasn't admitted to anything. I would like to add that there were leaks in the press which were false, in particular those saying he was proud of what his brother did. He stressed that is not true, he never said he was proud of his brother's acts and that he firmly condemned them."

Investigators are trying to establish whether Abdelkader Merah swayed his brother or gave practical help.
