Sierra Staten - Who I Really Am

In a sense of determination to find out who I really was;
I listened.
I listened to the voices that pleaded for somebody to hear what they had to say.
I despised those voices.
All my life they mocked me;
You're too ugly
You're not good enough
You wont succeed.
Now the voices were different.
They spoke softly, kindly;
They apologized for leaving me isolated for so long,
For allowing me to become just a walking body,
somebody who was dead, but still alive.
But, their words couldn't change me now.
Once you realize something your focus never leaves it until it changes.
I couldn't change who I was. I could try, but a lie is a lie, whether other people knew or not.
In a sense of determination to find out who I really was,
I know now, I am me.
Whether I am happy with myself or not,
Nobody else can be me.
