One of my longest students here at Freddie's Modern Kung Fu is Sidai Bang Roberto Antonio Edwards Waterman. I've learned through time in teaching that I cannot have my students meet up to my expectations, my expectations are just too unreasonable to achieve, I can only train my students to achieve their own expectations of growth while I continue to reach towards my own. I see that we are all on our separate journeys but yet we still manage to come together to grow together. The way that I see it, is that you are not considered an Advanced Martial Artist, aka "Black Belt" unless you are at Bruce Lee's level or above, and not just for now but for life, anything less than that is just not there yet, so we are all striving to become the best that we can be.

I can't even push my own children to become what I want them to be, I need to simply push myself to represent the Real Martial Arts to my fullest potential. Everybody else, my students, children, or followers can simply progress according to their own individual standards. There are no black belts in FMK, because there is no end to your growth until death. As long as I live, nobody will pass me, because I will be training till death, only after my death will somebody have to represent what I have represented or above, that is the only practical purpose behind a black belt.

Like a business, it either will die when you die, or it can continue to grow to the next level after your death through the guidance of someone with competency or it can be poorly misrepresented and end up being a severe corruption of what you had stood to represent while you were living. What I see is that I would rather die with the business than to have it be misrepresented. Bruce Lee was representing the Real Martial Arts, it is up to his hidden disciples to continue on with his teachings in which to bring it to the next level, if they cannot bring it too the next level, they must acknowledge that they have not achieved the level of Bruce Lee and to point the people towards his teachings in order to lesson the chances of further corruption.
