They had sweated to excel,
and work their way uphill;
some had finally made it
and whatever they had to, paid it.

The others did the same
to earn a great name.
But they fell by the wayside
and could not go with the tide.

There is something queer
about making it.You're almost there
when you go skidding away,
And losers have their day.
