If I could but live in thee
A light within thy shadowed heart
I wouldst shine for all eternity
For I wouldst be where ever thou art

Within thine heart I wouldst forever dwell
And when fears of the past did stealthily creep
'Twould be by my love such sorrows were quelled
So safely in mine arms, my darling, please sleep

And in those moments of hushed solitudes
When thou closest thine eyes to dream
I wilt shine with a love most imbued
Where those shadows do lurk and scheme

So lay thine head upon my breast awhile
And drift beyond the twilight’s deep
I wilt banish those shades that dare guile
Thy dreams and harry thy sleep
