Check out this footage showing sharks playfully bite the feeding boxes during an intense underwater encounter.
The videos were filmed by Ken Kiefer, 56, a professional underwater photographer from Texas, USA, while diving around 30 miles off the coast of Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, where he has spent more than two decades documenting sharks in their natural environment.
The clips capture sharks circling bait boxes before lunging forward and clamping down with powerful bites as excitement builds in the water.
In several moments, Ken is seen calmly remaining in the middle of the action even gently patting sharks as they dart past him like overexcited sea dogs.
The feeding sessions took place aboard the liveaboard vessel, where bait boxes are used to encourage sharks to remain in the area long enough to be observed and filmed.
Ken says the routine quickly becomes energetic as the sharks realise food is present.
Several familiar sharks return repeatedly to the site and are recognised individually, with names including Tequila, Stephanie and Emma.
Despite the dramatic scenes, Ken says the encounters are carefully managed through experience, preparation and strict safety briefings.
Ken Kiefer said: “I may be a little twisted to the average person, but I’m pretty stoked when the sharks get a little riled up and energetic.
“We have to bait the sharks, or they just won’t be around.
“We did this for eight days straight while living aboard.
“They bite the box because it’s full of their favourite sushi.
“Several of them keep coming back and actually have names, like Tequila, Stephanie and Emma.
“Experience is everything.
“The only kind of rush hour I like is tiger shark rush hour.”
