Description

Short Description:
Shadrach (1998), directed by Susanna Styron, is a poignant drama based on a short story by William Styron. Set in 1935 during the Great Depression, the film follows Shadrach, a 99-year-old former slave who walks 600 miles from Alabama to Virginia to fulfill his dying wish: to be buried on the land where he was born into slavery. The Dabney family, struggling with poverty and their own prejudices, faces legal and moral challenges in granting his request. Featuring Harvey Keitel and Andie MacDowell, the film explores themes of racism, class divisions, and remembrance.
