Description
His eyes burried in a novel,
She entered the room,
He awoke from his world of fiction,
Greeting her with a half hearted smile,
It was not returned.
With a phrase she left him once again,
'I just wanted to make sure we were clear'
He had nodded silently,
His book had lost it's hypnotic power,
It slipped from his hand falling to the desk top,
She wouldn't be coming back.
In one giant step he reached the recently closed door,
As his hand touched the knob he hesitated,
Uncertain, unsure of what to do next,
In his mind he pictured her holding the other side,
She was only waiting for him to follow,
Hoping he'd open it,
In his mind she embraced him.
The door swung open wide to reveal an empty hall,
She wasn't waiting after all,
She was gone and out of site,
Her words haunted him as he ran to the lobby,
'She couldn't get far.' he thought,
'I'll convince her to stay, admit I was wrong, '
'Apologize to her...'
In the parking lot now a crowd had gathered,
He couldn't see her amoung them,
Nor what they were standing over,
'A hit an run.' someone exclamed,
'That poor girl.' said another,
Sirens approaching
And like that, she was gone.
