Selina Gurgacz - How I Changed

It all began when I was a small girl,
Nowhere to go,
No one to love me
So I just sat on the footpath and dreamed.
I didn’t know how to read or write,
To play sport, or to just muck around with friends.
I couldn’t do anything without help.
But one day, one day,
A woman named Mary MacKillop passed by, saw me
And took me to her place and cared for me.
Her spirituality showed when she opened up a school for
People who couldn’t afford to send their children to school.
When I left, I was 13,
I went out into the big unknown world,
Doing what Mary MacKillop did to me.
I went out and helped the orphans, the poor and the sick,
Just like Mary MacKillop taught me.
What an inspiring person Mary MacKillop was,
Not only then, but for all times.
Her spirituality lives on,
Through the young women of today.
