I write myself off of sympathy
I need no sympathy, I write myself off
I am my own enemy, I need no help
I am my own help
because I was once hurled to the ground by a foreign man
because he spit on and called me black
black he means no colour but darkness
no! I need no sympathy
in dust I lie still pointing a finger
a finger of accusation to my dark past
for when a man falls, rise he must
I need the fruits of my womb to rise up, foreign aid I need not
I can rise in my black strength
if only l can learn not to be my own enemy
