Security tight for Kabul talks

Afghan police and soldiers set up security checkpoints in Kabul on Tuesday (June 14) as a one-day international conference got underway.

Ministers and representatives from 29 countries gathered for talks in the capital, focussing on the future of the country after foreign troops withdraw in 2014.

Armed guards carried out stop-and-search checks in a bid to stop any militant attacks during the conference.

Last month, international powers endorsed an exit strategy that aims to hand control of Afghanistan to its own security forces by the middle of 2013.

Concerns remain about how to prevent a Taliban resurgence as the country tries to recover from over a decade of war.
