Description

Security has been tightened in Ramadi, a city in central Iraq, and across the Anbar province in general, in the run-up to Sunday's parliamentary elections.

The city's police chief says more than 25,000 police officers and 40, 000 soldiers are involved in a joint security operation in Anbar.

Security forces are deployed on all the main roads as well at permanent and mobile checkpoints. Commanders say they are confident and everything is going according to plan.

But with Anbar bordering three countries, keeping the peace is a big challenge.

Al Jazeera's Omar al-Saleh reports from Ramadi. (6 March 2010)
