Description

The Romans came to Britain on Wednesday afternoon,
They came over quietly in a hot-air balloon.
'Let us in and give us your country, ' said Caesar,
'Not likely, ' we replied, 'You've got the wrong visa'.

The Romans went home to get a visa,
They had to go as far as Pisa.
Then they returned, quickly through Gaul,
Only to be delayed in the Customs hall.

Eventually they made it to this nation,
And imposed their Roman civilisation.
On the whole it was rather good,
And not another invasion dud.

The Romans did a great many things,
Built roads, aquaducts, and gladiator rings.
They gave us mosaics and central heating,
And all those things take some beating.

Eventually the Romans went away,
The didn't want to overstay.
The Romans had been handy. After all,
They left us a rather nice garden wall.
