Seal found in Warrington field

‘Distressed’ seal found 17 mile from coast is pushed into trailer with brooms
A Merseyside dog walker stumbled across a seal – 17 miles from the coast.

The sea mammal is thought to have travelled up the River Mersey before getting lost near Newton Brook in Newton-le-Willows.

Police, animal rescue officers and a farmer herded it with brooms into an RSPCA trailer.

It was found just before 10am.

Footage shows the distressed seal getting aggressive as people attempt to move it with brooms.

Rachael Fraser, from British Divers Marine Life Rescue Service, said: ‘We think he’s come from the Mersey area, which is tidal, and he’s come up the bank here and he’s got lost.

‘It’s very unusual.’
