Scott Stevenson - Is It Me

is it me that eventually drops,
for days or weeks of sour news
yes
I've been hit, too close to focus and regain my footing,
and too far away for empathy to reach

is it me mourning the quick loss
of a distant extended family member
is it shocking that life is
so easily snuffed out and shut down
like a light switch
yes

is it in my best interest to renovate
a lackluster standard
maybe I'm never cunning enough,
never really pondering, or pinned to my work
maybe I'm too poor to pay the attention
maybe we're all too young

is it me marching blind-folded out to war
yes,
if war can be fought in trusting success
yes,
if differences are ever really made
yes indeed
if love can never be forgotten
