Scoobs Mountain - Fireproof

I found some lost memories this last night.
Peeling back the wrinkled folds in the paper
I find promises made and not kept.
Were they all lies when you wrote them?
You looked so sad, sorry, and maybe sincere.
But now I look at these empty words and break inside.
If only the dreams you wrote could have been our reality.
But you told me to focus on the now, look to the future
So I will cleanse myself of these reminders.
Fire will purify this sore, will mend the wounds, and heal the heart.
Fire was always there,
The fiery passion in your kiss,
The flames in our eyes when we fought,
The flickering candlelight on those soft nights when we were in love.
Flames through it all, why not end the memories with our emblem?
Slowly the words catch fire,
Flames spread, soon they are all consumed.
Slowly they curl, blacken, and then become ash.
I douse the flames, but still they smolder.
I guess so do the remains of my seared heart.
Ready to catch flame at any moment.
It could, but you will never strike the match.
Your heart is now fireproof.
