SCF Technologies (SCF) develops and commercializes high pressure technology that is used to refine products, enhance processes and make intelligent materials. The technology platform is applied in two application areas, namely Advanced Materials and Energy, the latter one using the patented CatLiq® technology. This 2nd generation technology uses high pressures and temperatures to convert aqueous biomass waste into a bio oil in a process that resembles the process that created the world’s oil reserves of today. During the process, contaminants such as chlorine and sulfur are split off and in this way improving the environmental characteristics of the bio oil when burnt. The CatLiq® technology is especially well suited for treating organic wastes with high water contents. A demonstration plant is currently under construction and will be operational in the first half of 2009. In Advanced Materials, SCF creates materials that are structured at atomic level, thus achieving new attractive properties and functionalities. All new materials in this application area have been gathered under the TailorMat concept, and the first commercial product is ShineOnTM, a post treatment for windows to create so-called self cleaning windows.
