Sarkozy announces economic plan

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has used a prime time television interview to lay out his plan to rejuvenate the economy.

In his "Social Tax" plan, which he hopes to push through before the April election, taxes on goods and services will rise so as to reduce the burden on French companies, which he says will allow them to hire more staff.
