Sarah Eve - We Do Not Need Saving

And in order to save our hair,
From the gush of rushing windy waves
That cause our trips, we must gather early and often
We must fall onto our knees and fake our smiles.

And in order to save our rosy pitted fruits
From the slithering slips that grab hold
and seduce themselves down our throats
we must lay on our backs and bake your lies

These are the musts we are told
And these are the shoulds you unfold
From your crusty pages and pocketbooks.

And in order to secure a home
From the infinite denials and burning fuels
From the imaginary thorns upon our roses
We must resent contentment and refuse humanity

And in order to be whom you want us to be
To “rescue” ourselves from the messy smudges outside their page
We must steady our hands into your own
We must be exactly what we are not

These are the musts and shoulds they try to brand
Which have destroyed any fleeting fragment of human flight
And in order to reclaim hearts and truths and lives
Empowered minds must fight
We must reclaim the bright messy colours of nightfall and ripened fruits
We must embrace the emblems of disorganization
We must not take their musts
Only then will our rain be restored.
