Wandering on a winding, silvery path
Does the star-strewn sky beckon
Or the moonlit waters of the languid lake
Tapering cypress lead on to deeper depths
On the moonbeam studded strand
As she lay gloved in a dream*

Her golden-dappled hair dances with the waves
Sea nymphs plunge in and out of view
Maenads swirl, encircling her island home
Odd-shaped boulders fragment the coast
As the night deepens into deeper stains of darkness
As she lay enveloped in foggy-steam

Fragrant scents waft up from the meadows
Redolent of rushing roses loosing velvety petals
Clinging honeysuckle vines emit smitten-sweet notes
Night-blooming jasmine overwhelms her abode
Odiferous are the multitudinal odors
As she lay beauteously supreme

Unmemoried love unchained her and cast her alone
While she remembered a lasting love for him
Slowly this seeped away, seething, stirring
Until she was spent, solitary as the morning star
Sleeping the sleep of the forsaken, forlorn
As she lay set to be redeemed

Flutes foretell the frenzy of Bacchanalian love
Lyres lovingly waken her heart from grief
As bards sing of the coming of the glorious god
Woes are turned to gladness as she awaits
His presence, as she lay gloved in a dream
Upon life’s bountiful stream

Unmemoried love from a hero, now a god
Declares her as his own, he enwraps her
In his vine-covered cloak, Bacchus claims
Her as his queen, life is as full of paradoxes,
Twists and turns, never the goal intended
As she lay a conduit of life’s scheme
