SAND TORNADO IN AUSTRALIA OUTBACK
WITH VID
By Saloni Mathur
This mesmerising footage shows a dust storm rising from the Australian outback.
David Stowe, an Australian professional photographer, captured this sand storm or dust devil in an outback rural area of New South Wales, Australia.
The storm passed over dry harvested paddocks, and continued to build and gather momentum and turned into a twister, alongside a second one.
The temperature of the region was over 44 degrees Celsius for a week, with winds starting to pick up.
Dust devils are swirling columns of air that form from strong surface heating on hot, dry days.
They lift the dust and sand into visible vortices, resembling small tornadoes but originating from the ground up, not from storm clouds
David said: “ We were driving between Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin on a 45-degree Celsius day and noticed a bit of a Willy Willy (dust devil) in a paddock on the side of the road.
“I decided to put the drone up and followed the dust storm.
“It kept getting more and more intense, and then there were two!
“They literally ended up looking like tornadoes/twisters, which I’m definitely not used to here in Australia.”
