ilk's groaning shoulders
rest the great edifice
of the indian democracy.

long live democracy!

showpiece of ceremony
every where,
in the school he enrolls fast
and drops out as faster,
in the many govt developmental
data sheet, his name
adds weight to the number game,
in the meetings of different
flag beares of democracy
he is herded to add to the crowd,

from birth till his often
premature death,
in a road accident,
in police firing on
demonstrators
or crushed under the
debt burden,
from the branches of a
nearby tree,
he remains just a data sheet
name and number,

as long a he lives
on his and his ilk's
groaning shoulders rest the edifice
of the great indian democracy.
