Samuel L. Jackson's dash from volcano

As the situation with the Icelandic volcano causes chaos for the showbiz scene in the UK, it is also having an impact across the pond.

Samuel L. Jackson only just made it back to the US from France for the premiere of his new film, Mother and Child on Monday night. He said: "I got out last Wednesday before they even realised it was happening. I guess it was starting to happen just as we took off Wednesday afternoon from Paris."

Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried was dateless for the evening after her boyfriend Dominic Cooper got stranded in Britain.

"The person who is supposed to be standing next to me is my boyfriend and he is stuck in the UK," the actress said.

After his dash from Europe, Jackson joined co-stars Annette Bening, Noami Watts and Kerry Washington at the legendary Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

The film follows the stories of three women and the power of the unbreakable bond between mother and child. It is released in the US early next month, but so far has not been given a UK release date.
