Sameer Ahmed - A Preliminary Summer Song

In comes Summer
Days prolong
Sun blazes with full glow
Hot breeze scorches the vegetation
Ponds and nullahs dry up
Animals seek shelters
Birds pant, insects run
To their hidings below.

In comes Summer
Life insulates inside homes
Windows covered by chicks
And water- a natural coolant
Sprinkled on the floors.
Heat pricks.

In comes Summer
Hawking street vendors
Sell their art
And make colorful ice candies
Childern attracted
To their movable mart.

In comes Summer
Families gather in the evening
Kids dressed up in hues frolick.
Here comes Rock n Roll
Elderly laugh
Young boys and girls
Sing and dance
To take their chance
Cold drinks are distributed
As they leap over the summer pole.
