Salute to "The Lady"

June 21, 2006- The Burmese military tightened security around the home of detained National League for Democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi today, as the Nobel laureate celebrated her 61st birthday alone.

Police blocked University Avenue Road with barbed wire barricades, preventing cars from passing her house. Burmese activists and solidarity groups in India mark Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday today including speeches from Indian politicians and civil society groups and cultural performances.
