Safety at Goldcorp 2013-2014
Description
On October 30, 2013, every mine site and office was closed to honour the colleagues lost and for every employee to spend the day in safety training for the first Day of Remembrance. This will become an annual tradition to increase safety awareness and remind us all that Safe Enough for Our Families and Safe Production are important values.
For Goldcorp's inaugural Mine Rescue Summit, 12 teams representing mines in Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina and the United States gathered to compete in the mining town of Reno, Nevada. Each team made up of 8-10 members, competed in various underground and surface mine rescue simulations with the common goal to foster cohesion across the company, encourage cross cultural communication as well as the collaboration of mine rescue knowledge. Although the competitors spoke different languages, there was a strong sense of camaraderie and sharing of valuable knowledge that took place as they were all there for one reason— to train in case of an emergency.
