Shen started at FMK with some prior experience in another school. Every school is different and they focus on different things. In this school we focus a lot on fitness development, combative development in forms and safe sparring, and meditation. As far as meditation is concerned, Shen is more advanced than the average person in that aspect. As far as fitness was concerned, it is always a constant development, no matter how fit you are, you can always become more fit.

But from where he started from where he is currently, he has improved a lot since training at FMK. Before coming to FMK he was not able to perform one pull up. Now he can do about 15 pull ups. Before joining he was not bench pressing much weight, now he can max out at 220 lbs @ 170 lbs. He can also barbell squat his own weight for a few reps. His flexibility is also very good, he came into the school already pretty flexible. He has a very solid horse stance and he can do some very impressive leg kick holds.

When it comes to forms training, he is pretty good with that too. Though when it comes to sparring, he needed a lot of work. At the beginning, he was just moving way too slow, his reaction time was not good, he was turning his back a lot, he was getting faked out a lot, turning his head away, closing his eyes, etc. He needed a lot of development in sparring and we have been working on a lot of drills to help him get better. These 3 sparring videos are older videos, he still has not been filmed sparring recently but I can tell he has improved a lot since back then. With more time and experience, he should be able to get better at the sparring, it is an absolute necessity for anyone’s overall development as a Martial Artist.
