SA braces for COVID-19 third wave

A third COVID-19 wave could be triggered in the coming weeks. And the convenor of the Progressive Health Forum, Dr. Aslam Dasoo, says government was too quick to sell its stock of AstraZeneca vaccines. He says while it's relatively ineffective in stopping people getting Covid-19, it's highly effective in ensuring people don't die from the virus. Dasoo says thousands of deaths could have been avoided if we'd used our Astrazeneca stock. A U-S study has revealed the AstraZeneca vaccine provides strong protection against disease and complete protection against hospitalisation and death across all age groups and there are no safety concerns related to the vaccine.
