I like to wait till sunrise
to phone them.

makes me feel more alone to call
when the moon is in full force—
as if I’m howling with the wolves,
a bellow to end this blight.

makes me feel less alone to call
when the sun is blushing horizon—
as if I’m rejoicing with the doves of dawn:
a song to pursue this rapturous mourn.
