Description

She lives with her pierced heart
It wears her out;
If only to turn tail
To take a diff’rent route.

Stepping into a dream—
Succumbing to the sweetest doze:
Your eyes are shut,
You've never been so exposed.

“I'm not the answer,
You're easy to please.”
No, you see, I have this request,
That you pay for your fees.

“What do you mean—
I do not owe one toll.”
Yes, you see, you owe three:
My heart, body, and soul.

Regrets lie on an etcha-sketch
You cannot shake;
Stare at them long enough—
You’ll see a maze take shape.

Our doubts are our traitors
For every missed chance;
One move in one direction
And no second-glance.

I’ll be the first to admit:
I have no common sense,
But no history book
Would ever call me dense.

Still wits and reason fail
In a world of two-by-twos
With a pride that has fallen
Beside love’s clever muse.

Torn between truth and dream:
One life, one death,
Only to wake to realize:
You were holding your breath.

*dedicated to You, AAA Wonderful Lady.
