Russian anti-drone exercise goes wrong

A Russian anti-drone training exercise nearly ended in tragedy after a mounted Yak-B 12.7 heavy machine gun malfunctioned during a live-fire drill. The weapon, typically fitted on Mi-24 attack helicopters, had been installed on a military truck as part of Russia's efforts to strengthen defenses against increasing Ukrainian drone attacks. Moments after the operator opened fire, the gun's powerful recoil and torque threw him from his position, causing the weapon to spin uncontrollably while firing in multiple directions. A second soldier standing nearby narrowly avoided being hit by diving for cover before eventually regaining control of the machine gun. The dramatic incident, captured on video and shared by military bloggers, has drawn attention to the risks involved in adapting aircraft-mounted weapons for ground use without proper handling. The drill comes as Russia continues expanding mobile fire units designed to intercept Ukrainian drones targeting military vehicles and key supply routes.
