Members of Bhutan's royal family gathered for the wedding of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk on Thursday.
The 31-year-old King married 21-year-old Jetsun Pema, a university student.
The elaborate and hours long ceremony was broadcast live and attended by hundreds of well-wishers.
The new royal couple posed for photos after the ceremony.
Residents and guests say they're happy for the pair.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) BHUTAN RESIDENT TSHETEN DEMA, SAYING:
"The attendance to this royal wedding is a very special moment for me, because it is once-in-a-lifetime kind of an event, and I think everyone who is here witnessing the royal wedding must be feeling the same thing. It is a very special moment and I will cherish it forever."
(SOUNDBITE) (English) PHUNTSHO DORJI, ONE OF THE INVITEES TO THE WEDDING, SAYING:
"I am very happy, the whole nation is happy and we are joined together to celebrate this royal wedding."
King Jigme Khesar acts as guardian of people's rights in the young democracy, that's sandwiched between China and India in the Himalayans.
