Description

Ross Gorman, who rose to prominence in Paul Whiteman's Orchestra, is probably best remembered today for his original playing of the opening clarinet solo in George Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue. He led a successful band, The Virginians, who were a satellite band of the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. However, he also recorded sides under his own name, like this one made for Edison in 1927. Personnel consisted of: Donald Lindley, Harry Gluck (tp), probably Mike Martini (tb), Bert Reynolds (ss, as), Ross Gorman (cl, as, bar), Harold Noble (cl, ts), William McGill (ts), Saul Sharrow (vn), Fred Lightner (p), Dick McDonough or Tony Cilicchio (bj, g), probably Barney Acquelina (bb), as well as David Grupp (dm).
