Description
Thousands of Romanians took to the streets of the northwestern city Cluj-Napoca on Sunday, December 17, continuing protests against the government’s proposed judicial reforms, which they say will increase corruption.
About 4,000 people attended the demonstration, local source Digi24</a> reported, with many of them carrying flags while chanting and whistling in solidarity.
According to the European Commission and thousands of magistrates, the new legislation currently being debated by the ruling Social Democrats (PSD) would put the judicial system under political control and halt anti-corruption efforts</a>.
A larger protest, of about 10,000</a> people, took place in Bucharest, where demonstrators gathered downtown and marched to the parliament building. Credit: Instagram/elena.sarmasan via Storyful
