Robin Gibb is in a coma

Founding Bee Gees member Robin Gibb is in a coma.

The 62-year-old has been battling cancer and recently contracted pneumonia.

Tabloid reports say Gibb is surrounded by family and friends at The London Clinic Harley Street where he is being treated.

In February, Gibb announced he had made a "spectacular" recovery from cancer, but in late March he underwent further surgery, forcing him to cancel all engagements, including the world premiere of his first classical work, "The Titanic Requiem" co-written with his son Robin-John Gibb.

At the world premiere Robin-John confirmed his father was undergoing treatment.

SOUNDBITE: Robin-John Gibb, Robin Gibb's son, saying (English):

"Yes and of course these are all the periphery problems that occur when you have an illness like that. It's not always the cancer that will get you and he has to always be treated and always keep good scrutiny on his health. Sadly that's the way it is and tonight he would love to be here and we're really at a loss because we really wanted him to see this and be able to see our baby come to fruition."

The Bee Gees rose to worldwide fame in the 1970's, producing a string of disco favorites including "Jive Talkin'", "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Night Fever".
