i see you there with your eyes down cast
dwelling on secrets and times long past
where days felt like weeks felt like years
and the world seemed to play off your fears
you swear nothing's wrong and you say no more
but your gaze still rests on the floor
the broom grazes the dirt and the grime and dust
kicks it up but never seems to pick it up
Stirring memories you'd rather keep concealed
You don't want your pain to be revealed

It's getting under my skin to see you this way
your hazel eyes are fading to grey
and it's getting harder to stay, harder to stay away
All I can do is pray

but take my hand and hold it tight
there's nothing left to fear
things are gonna be alright
I can take you far from here
if you give me one chance
one chance to make a difference
in your life

I see you there staring into space
failing to hide all the pain from your face
where tear trails remain on your cheeks
don't want them to think that you're weak
faking a smile to deflect their concerns
you know from experience how quickly they turn
you're thinking of lies and of broken trust
but you know better than to bottle it up
and though life isn’t quite what you hoped
you’re trying so hard to learn how to cope
