Robert Combs - Silence

the things I wish to tell you
cannot be said too quickly
and I never took the time before
and it's been a long time coming
for these dreams I have to share

if you go looking for me
in the Village
on the sandy strand in Venice
or among the poets in Salinas
you will find me there always
with my words
ready to sing
ready to die

even as the rain falls
you should be able to hear
if you listen well
as I come and go and come again
to stay
as surely as I have left
my words behind unheard

know I was the one
for silence holds no end for me
and wait for me
wait for my words
and let everyone know I am coming
back to the streets

listen to the sunset
as she plays among the waves
revealing the shock of darkness
as she bursts into a whisper
glances off a shadow
and is gone
left to me waiting
in the silence of a shooting star
