Rob Penn - Why I Cry

You said to me the other night
“The way you looked made me think you were going to cry.”
I thought I might tell you, in the best way I know how,
What makes me cry.

This cry isn’t the kind that you do
When you see a sad movie or two
It doesn’t come with only a tear
That you can hide from see-ers

This is the cry that makes your face contort
This is the cry that forces your voice to crumble
This is the cry that throws you out of sorts
And this is the cry I cry.

So now I will tell you why I cry
It is not over the little things
No, it is over what some may call trivial
Others would say that is only for the weak

Still some say it is for the overly sensitive
But those who cry the same as I
Would never call it any of those things
They describe it by a different measure

They say in their minds
“We cry so we can be strong the next day
We cry so we can support those who need us
We cry because we are strong enough to believe in others

We cry because we make you
Feel disappointed and that we are worthless
We cry not for the little meaningless things
We cry for the things that break our hearts”

Some call us stupidly frivolous
NO we say NO! ! we must cry
So tomorrow we can live
So that we can take the world on without the pains of yesterday

Not many understand, and I do not expect you to
But do not tell when you think I am going to cry
For I cry because of you.
