Rising Sun - Socks in Relationships

How perfect they looked,
A matching pair,
On display, hanging there.

Their future looked bright,
As their journey began,
Specifically matched, by the Man.

They knew for sure,
Their day had come.
Lying there, rolled up as one.

First days apart,
Yet still close by,
Feeling great, even high.

Washing machine?
What is this,
Thrown into the great abyss.

Round and round
They went,
Time, not well spent.

Day by day,
Like on a roll,
Wear and tear taking its toll.

The shine now gone,
Rolled up as two,
No longer, feeling new.

A hole appeared
In one of them
Thread unravelled, along the hem.

The Man saw his toe,
Looking at him,
And threw the sock into the bin.
