Riley Beatty - I Do not understand poem

I do not understand why girls are so complex
How outer space goes on forever
How something so surreal can look real
But most of all

I do not understand
Why people put each other down
Why they twist each other’s words
Why they try to destroy one another’s spirit

What I understand are dogs
Their love is unconditional
They don’t criticize you or tell you you’re wrong
They don’t get mad if you yell at them,
They are loyal and helpful
They will still love you no matter how you look or act

And if you are sad or in pain
They will be there every minute to comfort you
Without any complaints
