Richard Chai gets formal for fall
Description
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: American designer Richard Chai showed his Fall/Winter 2013 collection on Thursday (February 7), the opening day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.
The Korean-American designer, who showcased a sporty, carefree spring collection last season, said that his fall 2013 feels more formal.
Shades of green, gray and purple ruled his runway - matching Pantone's Fashion Color Report for Fall 2013 released on Thursday.
Pantone, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, released the top 10 colors for fall 2013 in which four were different hues of green.
Complementing the deep purple on Chai's runway was lilac, an unusual color for fall.
Chai incorporated the colors in different fabrics that ranged from wool to cotton to sheer silk.
He dressed his men in plaid suits and oversized coats and women in structured pencil skirts and bomber jackets playing with different silhouettes.
"There is very form fitting shapes for the women, but then there is this kind of oversized coats. And there is very shaped jackets, but they are more away from the body. So it's that play of things that are about volume but with control," he said.
Gracing Chai's front row: actress and personal friend of Chai, Christina Ricci and singer Ashlee Simpson.
Over 90 designers will showcase at MBFW at Lincoln Center and venues around the city that will run from February 7 until 14.
